Terms of Service
The short version
- imglean is a free browser-based image tool. Use it for whatever you like, including commercially.
- Your files stay on your device. We never receive them, so we cannot lose them — but keep your own backups anyway.
- Do not use it to process material you have no right to process.
- The service is provided as-is, with no warranty, and our liability is limited.
- These terms are governed by the law of [[FILL:GOVERNING_LAW]].
1. Who we are
imglean ("the Service") is operated by:
[[FILL:OPERATOR_LEGAL_NAME]]
[[FILL:OPERATOR_ADDRESS]]
In these Terms, "we" and "us" mean that operator. "You" means the person using the Service. Contact: support@imglean.com.
2. The Service
imglean compresses and converts images. All of the work happens inside your web browser using WebAssembly; your files are not transmitted to us. The Service is offered free of charge and requires no account.
Because processing happens on your device, the results depend on your browser and hardware. Different browsers support different encoders, and output size will vary accordingly. We do not guarantee a particular compression ratio or a particular output quality.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- process material you do not have the legal right to process;
- create or distribute unlawful content, including content that infringes someone else's copyright, trade mark or privacy;
- create material that sexualises minors, or that is otherwise illegal in your jurisdiction or ours;
- attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the Service or the infrastructure that delivers it;
- misrepresent the Service as your own product, or resell access to it as though it were.
You are responsible for the images you choose to process and for what you do with the results.
4. Your files and your content
You keep all rights to your images. We claim no licence over them, for the simple reason that we never receive them. There is no upload, so there is no copy on our side to license, store, inspect or delete.
What this also means is that we cannot recover your files. If your browser crashes, if you close the tab mid-batch, or if a conversion produces something you are unhappy with, the original is only wherever you kept it. Please keep backups of anything important.
5. Third-party sites and the URL import feature
The tool can fetch an image from a URL you supply. That request is made by your browser directly to the third-party site, which will see your IP address. We are not a party to that exchange and have no control over the third-party site, its availability, its content or its terms. If a site blocks cross-origin requests, the fetch will fail; downloading the image and opening it from your device instead always works.
Links from imglean to other websites are provided for convenience and do not imply that we endorse them.
6. Availability and changes to the Service
We aim to keep imglean available, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may add, change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time. Where a change would remove a feature you rely on, we will try to give reasonable notice on the site.
7. Open-source components
imglean is built on open-source software, including components licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License and the Apache License 2.0. Those components remain under their own licences, and nothing in these Terms restricts your rights under them. The full list, with versions and links to the licence texts, is on the open-source licences page.
8. Paid plans
imglean is currently free, and no payment is possible. If we introduce a paid plan, the following will apply, and these Terms will be updated before any payment is taken:
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
In other words, your purchase would be a contract with Paddle as the seller, not with us, and Paddle would be responsible for payment processing, invoicing, tax and refunds. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that conversions will be accurate or lossless, or that output files will be suitable for your purpose.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including, for consumers in the EEA and the UK, your statutory rights.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for any loss of data, loss of profits, loss of goodwill, or business interruption, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.
Because the Service is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and (b) zero. Where paid plans are introduced, this clause will be revised at the same time.
This section does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and it does not apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or to fraud.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [[FILL:GOVERNING_LAW]], and any dispute arising from them will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that jurisdiction — except that, if you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence continue to apply.
Before starting formal proceedings, please write to support@imglean.com. Most problems are faster to solve that way.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will change, and continuing to use the Service after a revision means you accept it. If a change is material, we will flag it on this page rather than leave you to diff the text.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
